Why choose Lincoln?

Since being opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1996, the University of Lincoln has invested more than £300 million in its buildings and facilities. The modern student-centred environment is based on the picturesque Brayford Pool marina, and everything students need is either on campus or a short walk away. The University of Lincoln is rated 17th in the UK in The Guardian University Guide 2020, was also awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework and was also placed 10th in the UK for university facilities in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2018.

One of the world’s great historic cities, Lincoln is renowned for its fusion of old and new. Lincolnshire is the birthplace of renowned physicist and mathematician Sir Isaac Newton, and the UK’s first female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. More recently the city of Lincoln has featured in Downton Abbey and The Da Vinci Code.

The University of Lincoln’s global graduate community includes more than 90,000 former students across 135 countries. Lincoln graduates have gone on to secure jobs at major companies and organisations around the world, including the BBC, Rolls-Royce, Siemens, Boots, GlaxoSmithKline, Lloyds Bank, and Rockstar Games.

A unique experience

The city’s famous Steep Hill – a beautiful cobbled street lined with boutique shops and tearooms – provides the gateway to the city’s historic Cathedral Quarter and Bailgate area where independent shops and cafes nestle between the walls of the medieval Lincoln Castle and the grandeur of Lincoln Cathedral.

The University of Lincoln’s graduation ceremonies take place in the historic setting of Lincoln Cathedral, helping you to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Sampling the county’s tempting local food is a must, from the famous Lincolnshire sausage to delicious cheeses and homemade plum bread. Lincoln is home to a variety of restaurants and cafés which specialise in cuisine from around the world. Examples include Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Greek and Mexican. There are also a variety of oriental and European food stores and a halal butcher. Don’t miss the city’s famous Christmas Market in December.

A focus on employability

Each year the University welcomes a range of guest speakers who deliver inspirational talks in their respective fields as part of our Great Lives lecture series. Previous examples include BBC presenter Chris Packham and ExoMars spacecraft engineer Abbie Hutty.

The University of Lincoln’s approach to working with employers has been acknowledged through a series of national awards and accolades, including a Lord Stafford Award (2011) in recognition of partnerships with businesses, and a Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding Employer Engagement (2012).
