What must a doctor or clinical psychologist of tomorrow be able to do? Which diseases are coming to us through demographic change? How does individualized, high-tech medicine remain affordable and humane?
The Medizinische Hochschule Brandenburg Theodor Fontane ( MHB ) sees its founding MHB as well as its unique selling point in a specific response to changing demands of our society on the health system in general and education to the doctor, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists and other health professionals in particular.
In the country. For the country.
The Medizinische Hochschule Brandenburg Theodor Fontane ( MHB ) is a state-recognized university in municipal and non-profit sponsorship. It stands for innovative teaching concepts as well as for the unity of research, teaching and patient care. With our three university hospitals Ruppiner Kliniken , Städtisches Klinikum Brandenburg and Immanuel Klinikum Bernau , Heart Center Brandenburg and currently more than 20 cooperating clinics and around 100 teaching practices, we bundle science-based and practice-oriented know-how for the study of a new generation of physicians and psychologists.
The goal and founding claim of the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences is to establish a modern and practical as well as liberal and holistic education that meets the demands of the future profession. With the qualification and education of technically experienced, human competent and socially committed physicians and psychologists, we want to make an active contribution to the solution of current problems and to the best possible patient care for the country. In Brandenburg. And beyond.
The Medizinische Hochschule Brandenburg sees itself as a public welfare-oriented university with a unique circle of municipalities, hospitals and deaconry. Against the background of our founding impulse and on the basis of our objective, we want to be and become a university, which dares to do something courageous in teaching and research, boldly breaks new ground and as a pioneer in education solves urgent social questions. And we want to be and become a university that gives space for the development of talent and the development of personality.
A university that strives for the individual development potential of each individual who promotes and demands it. A university that proves its ability to learn, innovate and relate again and again in future tasks. A university that not only enjoys studying but also teaching, researching and working. And last but not least: a university that, with its charitable-entrepreneurial structure and its special circle of partners from municipalities, hospitals and diaconia, wants to make a contribution to medical care in the country, to the future of health and to social change.
Medicine and psychology with heart, hand and brain
In research, the focus is on the medicine of aging, which includes all the processes, mechanisms and changes that occur as part of the aging process, leading to diseases or limitations of the body or mind that require medical diagnosis, treatment or prevention.
On the one hand, the MHB academic self-concept is based on findings of basic research, but on the other hand it is also oriented towards holistic, humanistic, personal and integrated medicine and psychology with heart, hand and brain, in which the individual, physical, social and psychological Location is central and not just the medical or supply-technical case.
The Ruppiner Kliniken, the Städtische Klinikum in Brandenburg on the Havel and the Immanuel Klinikum Bernau Heart Center Brandenburg act as university clinics and guarantee with their professors the close connection between research, teaching and patient care. Other cooperating clinics and teaching practices as well as a number of renowned cooperation partners from the fields of health, politics and science are actively involved.
The state of Brandenburg was previously the only land area that had no own medical faculty and in which no independent doctor education was offered. With the founding of MHB this gap will be closed gradually. Every year, 48 medical students, 42 undergraduate and graduate students, and as of 2016 initially 21 students in the Master's program in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (M.Sc.) will start.
With the planning of further degree programs in medical and psychological fields (such as psychotherapy, creative therapy and other health professions), the further development of MHB into a university for medicine and health sciences in Brandenburg is a potential future perspective.
