As a pre-optometry student, you will typically follow the Lindenwood University curriculum for either a bachelor of science degree in biological science or a bachelor of science degree in chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry. Either of these degrees will get you the prerequisite coursework that you need to be a good candidate for application to an optometry school. These courses include:

General Chemistry at least 2 semesters (with laboratories)

General Biology at least 2 semesters (with laboratories)

Organic Chemistry - 2 semesters (with laboratories)

General Physics - 2 semesters (with laboratories)

English Reading and Composition – at least 1 semester

Students must also complete an entrance test (MCAT, GRE, DAT or OAT)

It is generally recommended that as you complete the degree. If you have specific optometry schools in mind, you should work with your major advisor to make sure that you complete any specific courses that are required by that school.

First Year Undergraduate Admissions Requirements

If you attended school within the United States:

 Have your school send your official transcripts directly to Lindenwood. You will be able to view the completed requirement in your application status page once they have been processed.

If you attended school outside the United States:

 Please refer to the Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) website to view the required documents needed for admission. 

You need to select the country you studied in from the drop-down menu and click GO.

The website will let you know what documents you need to submit to Lindenwood. If they are not in English, we also require a certified English translation of the documents.

This is NOT a request for an official ECE evaluation. In most cases, ECE evaluations are NOT required for high school-level transcripts or exams.

When you are ready to submit your transcripts, upload them to your application status page. Transcript evaluations can take 3-5 business days to complete. You will be able to view the completed requirement in your application status page once they have been processed.

After your documents have been verified and evaluated, your application will move to review. An admissions decision will be emailed to you within 5 business days. If admitted, you will want to refer to the Newly Admitted International Students portion of our website for more information. Your admissions counselor will also reach out with your next steps.

Dual enrollment transcripts should be sent from the institution awarding credit.

Submit your official high school transcript(s) directly to Lindenwood University

Test scores, while encouraged, are not required for an admissions decision to be made. Test-optional status must be designated at the time of application.

Students that file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be considered for all institutional scholarships

The FAFSA opens on October 1 of each academic year

Missouri residents are encouraged to apply for the FAFSA by the priority deadline of February 1 to be considered for all aid types

The investment to attend Lindenwood is $12,000 less expensive than the average cost of tuition at other private institutions within 200 miles.

When students have accepted an offer of admission to Lindenwood, students and their parents and/or guardians likewise accept all conditions of payment as well as all terms and regulations of the university. By making the non-refundable $200 housing deposit (described below), the student and the parent or guardian acknowledge these terms and signify acceptance of these obligations. No promise or contract that differs from these terms shall bind the university unless it has been signed by the president or his designated agent. The university reserves the right to increase or reduce fees each year according to changes in fiscal conditions.
