Entry requirements
All entry requirements listed here should be used as a guide and represent the minimum required to be considered for entry. Applicants who are made a conditional offer of a place may be asked to achieve more than is stated.
Year 1
SQA Higher
BBBBC including 2 Sciences, plus Maths, English and Physics Nat 5 at B
A Level
BBB including one science plus GCSE Maths, Physics and English at B/6
ILC Higher
H2 H3 H3 H3 H3 to include Physics, Maths, and English
IB Diploma
28 points must include a Higher Level Science and Maths at 6
BTEC Extended Diploma
in Science/Applied Science DDM plus GCSE English, Maths plus Physics at B/6 or Double Science at BB/66
College
AP Access to Science and Technology/Ophthalmics with ABB and including 70% in Physics module. Science or healthcare based HNC/D with B in the Graded Units and including sufficient coverage of Physics. Other science-related HNC qualifications (including Physics) may be considered.
English language
Applicants whose first language is not English will normally be required to hold IELTS of overall 7.0 with 6.5 in each element or equivalent.

Other academic and vocational qualifications
Each application to GCU is considered on an individual basis. If you do not have the typical academic entry qualifications, but can demonstrate relevant work experience and/or credits from recognized professional bodies, you may be eligible to enter this course via the University's Recognition of Prior Learning scheme.
International pathways
If you do not meet the English language requirements, you may be eligible for the English for University Study programme.

What you will study
Year 1
Foundations in Practice in Health and Social Care, Ocular Anatomy and Physiology, Child Development and Health Optics, Refraction and Binocular Vision, Practice Education.
Year 2
Diagnostic Techniques, Ocular Pharmacology, Ocular Pathology, Physiology and Microbiology, Refraction and Binocular Vision, Introductory Ocular Disease, Practice Education.
Year 3
Advanced Orthoptics 1 & 2, Research Methods and Statistics, Clinical Ophthalmology, Incomitant Deviations, Practice Education, Visual Neuroscience.
Year 4
Management in Health Care, Honours Project, Advanced Orthoptics 3, Practice Education.
