Welcome to Northwest College's Nursing Program. We offer several programs to students interested in nursing as a career. These programs are:
- Allied Health — Associate of Science
- Nursing - Certified Nursing Assistant — Certificate
- Nursing - Licensed Practical Nurse — Certificate
- Nursing - Registered Nurse — Associate of Applied Science
These options are available to suit your personal situation and career goals or to help you make the decision that is best for you. Depending on the course of study you take, you are eligible to sit for an exam that can license you as a CNA, LPN, or RN.
Associate of Science
If you would like to work in an allied health field but are not sure which one, this degree program is an excellent choice. The program is also a great choice for students who are completing the prerequisites for admission into the Nursing Program. Students planning to transfer to a four-year program may need to have additional hours beyond the specialization requirements of Northwest College in order to transfer as a junior.
Nursing - Certified Nursing Assistant
This Northwest College certificate is designed to prepare the student with the basic theory, principles, and skills necessary to provide client/resident care in the healthcare setting. The student will be made aware of how State and Federal laws, as well as policies and procedures of the institution, govern the practice of the nursing assistant. Special emphasis is placed on the role of the nursing assistant in meeting the physical, psychosocial, mental, spiritual, and cultural needs of the client/resident. The student will be introduced to medical vocabulary and terminology. To give the students a working knowledge of medical terms, the use of prefixes, suffixes, word roots and combined forms of words will be stressed.
Nursing - Licensed Practical Nurse
The Practical Nursing Certificate provides a solid foundation in the principles and theories of nursing for students planning to practice as Licensed Practical Nurses in the healthcare setting. Students who successfully complete the program of study will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing.
Nursing - Registered Nurse
Associate of Applied Science
This is the option you’re looking for if you want to work as a Registered Nurse (RN) after a two-year course of study at Northwest. Prerequisites apply that could increase the total number of semesters you’re enrolled in classes.
