Recognition of university activities and transversal competences of the usc:
Students will be able to obtain up to a maximum of 12 optional credits for the recognition of the activities contemplated in article 12.8 of RD 1393/2007 and of the transversal competences of the USC. In addition, the WHO recognizes the veterinarian as a health professional and the FAO as an agricultural professional, therefore, the specific professional competencies of a veterinarian in today's society are very numerous:Veterinary Medicine: Diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases that affect domestic, experimental, exotic, wild and wild animals, as well as their health, believed and well-being. It also includes all those medical profiles that focus on individual health, such as identification, ethology, sanitary control, and prevention of zoonoses.
Production and animal health: Breeding and health of the production species, in relation to the different aspects of control, handling, management and advice both to the farmer and to the companies dedicated to the production of food and the exploitation of terrestrial, marine or fluvial of animal origin. This profile also includes the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases in production animals, the epidemiological study of animal diseases and zoonoses, as well as the design of health policies, risk analysis and identification of livestock. In the same way, it includes the classification and commercialization of products of animal origin, the control of the movement of animals and the environmental impact of animal productions, and all those aspects related to obtaining livestock products for human consumption and the production of food intended for animal consumption, as well as all those economic implications that these processes may have had.
Hygiene, safety and food technology: The control of the food production chain, understood as a continuous process that ranges from primary production to its supply to the consumer, ensuring traceability. In the same way, it provides advice to companies or food establishments, the implementation of good food preparation and handling practices, the implementation of self-control programs and the training of personnel handling them. This profile also includes the control of the entry of animal, fruit and vegetable products or processed foods from third countries, in order to prevent food poisoning and zoonoses, as well as all those professional activities that guarantee the quality and health of the products. food.
Others: The activity of the veterinarian is also carried out in other professional sectors such as the handling and management of zoological centers, wildlife and game, natural spaces and animal facilities. You can also carry out your work in the realization, development and management of R & D & I in the public sector or in the chemical-pharmaceutical and agri-food industry, as well as in the environmental field, in the development of cooperation projects with others countries, in analysis laboratories, in teaching and health education, and in all those areas for which they may be qualified by their training.According to these competences, the veterinarian becomes a key element in the sanitary and agrarian framework of any society, being able to develop their work at different levels of the public sector, that is, in the European Union, in the Administration General of the State, in the Autonomous Communities, and in the Local Entities, or in the private sector, either autonomously or as part of a business structure.
