The course in Medical Radiology Imaging and Radiotherapy Technicians of the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Neuroscience of our University has historical roots in the Sienese radiological reality, which has been at the forefront since the 1930s.

Our full time, three year diagnostic radiography and imaging programme is accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council and the Society and College of Radiographers, and the skills you obtain are transferable to all NHS organisations and are recognised overseas. This will help you to develop the skills necessary to become a qualified diagnostic radiographer who is proactive and responsive to the rapidly changing landscape of clinical radiography.

Radiation therapists operate machines called linear accelerators, which are used to deliver radiation therapy. These machines direct high-energy x-rays at specific cancer cells in a patient's body, shrinking or removing them. Radiation therapists are part of the oncology team that treats patients with cancer.

The baccalaureate Medical Imaging curriculum is designed to build upon an Associate Degree in Imaging or an approved diploma program. Diploma graduates may need to complete prerequisite courses in general education before acceptance into the Medical Imaging degree program.

The medical imaging and radiotherapy technician works in medical teams. He participates in the functional exploration and makes the diagnosis. He carries out, according to the medical prescription, acts relating to medical imaging by manipulating the MRIs and the scanners and other radiological devices of which he is a specialist.
