Theory studies are implemented as face-to-face teaching, online courses and independent studies. In addition to Nursing Science-based professional studies, the programme also includes languages, IT, welfare entrepreneurship and other basic studies. Advanced professional studies strengthen the knowledge and skills of nurses in different fields of nursing and medical specialities.
Nurses need to have good social interaction skills as well as management, decision-making and nursing skills. In addition to these competencies, nurses are to be responsible; diligent and accurate in order to ensure patient safety.
Centria's degree programme in Nursing includes 75 credits of supervised practical training, which are carried according to the study objectives, in approved practical placements, either in Finland or abroad. Part of the training takes place in workshops and simulation environments.
The teaching method used in the Degree Programme in Nursing is Problem Based Learning (PBL). PBL supports the student’s professional growth by providing them with the capacity for independent research and multidisciplinary cooperation, receiving and providing feedback and by enhancing self-assessment and communication skills. During the third and fourth study year, part of the study courses can also be in Finnish, so students should be able to communicate in Finnish at the end of their studies. Therefore, the degree programme provides students with the expertise to work both in Finland and in an international environment.
A registered nurse can work in hospitals, health centers, acute and home nursing settings, elderly service units, inpatient - and other organisations and different projects.
The title Registered Nurse (UAS) may only be used and practised by a registered nurse who has completed the degree (UAS).
The National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) grants, upon application, the right to practice as a licenced or authorised professional and authorises the use of the occupational title of "health care professional " according to the Act on Health Care Professionals (559/949).
The degree programme fulfils the European Union’s Directive (2013/55/EC) on the requirements for recognition of professional qualification.

A Registered Nurse may after three years of relevant work experience continue for a Master’s degree from a UAS. As a nurse, you may also take part in different continuing courses and education. Universities also offer Master's studies in social work and health care destined for nurses.

Tuition fees and scholarships
Tuition fees are charged from Bachelor’s level students studying in languages other than Finnish or Swedish. Tuition fees will be charged from citizens of a country outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.

Early bird discount
Student gets an early bird discount of 1500 € of the first year's tuition fee if the study place is accepted and the tuition fee paid within two weeks after the notification. The discount will be reduced from the first year's payment.
Centria UAS offers a scholarship programme for students who are subject to paying tuition fees. Tuition fees for the second academic year are paid in halves. The first invoice to cover expenses for the fall semester studies will be always sent out in the spring semester (May). The second invoice will be sent out in the following fall semester (November). However, the second half of the tuition fees can be avoided if the student qualifies for a scholarship.
Centria UAS offers a 50 % scholarship as a waiver to all students who usually complete 55 ECTS (study credits) in the previous academic year. Exceptionally in 2021 and 2022, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the credit requirements for granting scholarships have been lowered to 45 ECTS.
