When disaster strikes, be the first on the ground. Learn how to asses risk, mitigate those risks, organize aid groups and first-responders, acquire resources and open clear channels of communication with Findlay's Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability degree. With a focus in Emergency Management, you can help make a difference and keep people safe during hurricanes, forest fires, other natural disasters, and man-made disasters.

Choose your electives within the Environment, Health, Safety (EHS) and Sustainability degree to prepare yourself for a career in environmental compliance. Professionals in this fieldwork with large companies to help them abide by environmental laws, regulations, standards and other requirements such as site permits to operate. In recent years, environmental concerns have led to a significant increase in the number and scope of compliance imperatives across all global regulatory environments. Environmental concerns and compliance activities are increasingly being aligned with corporate performance goals to increase profits and avoid conflicts, wasteful overlaps, and gaps.

By focusing on sustainability electives, students achieve an understanding of modern sustainability practices and how to realistically implement them in the world. Students who choose this path benefit from Findlay's ongoing sustainability initiatives including solar and wind turbine powered student housing, a biodiesel converter, a 54-acre natural habitat used as a living laboratory and activities including the Ohio Student Sustainability Leader Conference.

What you can do with an EHS and Sustainability Degree 

According to a survey undertaken by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE),  graduates who achieved their bachelor's degrees in STEM subjects will be the highest earners for starting salaries for the class of 2018. Students majoring in math and sciences enter the work for an average starting salary of $62,177. The survey also found that those graduating in 2018 would enjoy a 16.6 percent increase in hiring compared to those who finished their schooling in the previous year.

Private Sector Jobs

Anytime there is a large group of people working in the same space, an environmental safety and health professional is going to be needed.  With the knowledge from Findlay's ESH and Sustainability program, you can work in whatever field you desire. Large companies that do not work with machinery or manufacturing still need overall workplace safety and health analyses. For companies that do have the additional risks of chemicals and heavy machinery, someone with the proper knowledge on safety and laws is invaluable.
